| A Model of Asset-Seeking Foreign Direct Investment |
| Abstract: This paper expands and enhances our understanding of the ways in which firms use foreign direct investment (FDI) to maximize value from their opportunities worldwide. Past investigations have focussed on FDI as a means of exploiting a firm's existing proprietary advantages abroad or as part of a firm's equilibrium strategy in a game of imperfect international competition (Graham and Krugman, 1991). Here, I present a simple game theoretic model illustrating a third general motive for undertaking FDI - to secure access to valuable assets through participation foreign markets. |
