Specializations & Graduate Diplomas
In the second year of study, IMBA students will take a minimum of 18 credit hours of elective courses to meet their degree requirements. Students may select from the wealth of courses offered at Schulich, with over 100 electives scheduled each year. Students may also participate in an exchange term abroad to complete a portion of their elective requirements (12 to 15 credit hours). Students who do not study abroad must complete at least 6.0 credit hours of International Business Electives.
Many students use their elective selections to complete one or two specializations, in addition to the International Business specialization that is built into the IMBA program. Students may focus on management functions such as finance and marketing; industries or sectors such as financial services, public management, nonprofit management and leadership; or management topics such as entrepreneurial studies, and business and sustainability. In order to complete a specialization, IMBA students are required to take 9.0 credit hours of elective courses in a particular area of study.
Graduate diplomas are also available in some areas (as indicated by an asterisk in the list above). It is important to note that Graduate Diplomas may be difficult to complete in the IMBA given the structure of the program. We do, however, encourage students to meet with an academic advisor to discuss their objectives and map out a plan of action.
