Message From the Director

The Doctoral Program in Administration at the Schulich School of Business, York University offers outstanding students the opportunity to develop the theoretical and methodological skills that will enable them to conduct leading edge research in business. Graduates of the program have gone on to successful careers in universities, government, and industry in Canada and in other countries.

The Program attracts top students from a variety of academic backgrounds, with some having significant work experience. This rich diversity creates a vibrant and stimulating research environment. Since York University is located in the Greater Toronto region, there is easy access to the largest business community in Canada. Our students make use of this advantage to identify relevant research topics, to observe business processes, and to conduct field research.

Faculty at the Schulich School are recognized as world leaders in research with a broad range of skills and interests. Doctoral students have the opportunity to work closely with them. All new students work with one or more faculty members as research assistants. Later on in their program, each student works with their supervisor and other members of their supervisory committee to write the doctoral dissertation. Cross-disciplinary research is encouraged. Students have the opportunity to draw on the expertise of faculty in different areas within Schulich, as well as in other graduate departments at York, such as Economics, Law, Mathematics, and Psychology.

Our doctoral program offers students a teaching practicum in conjunction with York’s Centre for the Support of Teaching. This gives students help in developing their teaching skills as well as hands-on experience in classroom management, course preparation and the development of a personal teaching style. We also offer regular research seminars, led by renown scholars from around the world, to help students develop an awareness of current research, as well as ideas for their dissertation.

If you have a strong academic record, and value the challenge and excitement of conducting advanced research in business, we encourage you to discuss our program and your academic interests with us.
