Pioneering Schulich School Professor to Speak
on Business Ethics and Management Education



WHO:In 1992, Wesley Cragg was appointed to the newly endowed George R. Gardiner Professorship in Business Ethics at the Schulich School of Business. The position was created in response to a perceived need to address the ethical dimensions of business more explicitly in Schulich’s management programs. In addition to his work as a driving force at Schulich in regards to the integration of business ethics into the core curriculum, Dr. Cragg has been a leading international figure in the campaign to combat corrupt practices in the global marketplace. As Director of Transparency International Canada Inc., he spearheaded a successful campaign to have the Canadian government pass legislation criminalizing the bribery of foreign officials. He has also been a vocal advocate inside Canada for the adoption of debt forgiveness policies for developing countries and was a key player in the ratification of the OECD Anti-Bribery convention. He is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Business Ethicsand Business Ethics Quarterly. As well, he is a Member of the Corporate Social Responsibility Advisory Council, Export Development Canada (EDC).

WHY:Delivered on the occasion of Dr. Cragg’s retirement from the Schulich School of Business, this second public lecture will reflect on the progress made towards meeting the original goals of the Business Ethics program at Schulich. The talk will also focus on the future of business ethics as a core element in business and management education at Schulich, other business schools and academic communities in general. The lecture complements one given at the official launch of the Schulich Business Ethics program in 1992. Titled “The Business of Ethics and the Ethics of Business",this earlier talk identified the key themes that would guide the new program's development.
